Admission to the Courses

The first step for those wishing to embark on Postgraduate study in Medical Laboratory Science is to establish eligibility for admission to the programme. You must demonstrate that you have the appropriate pre-entry qualifications and that your proposed programme is an acceptable one.

To do this you should complete the "Application for Admission to the Postgraduate Diploma of Medical Laboratory Sciences Degree" form; The Application Form is enclosed in the information booklet, available from:

Your application for admission to the course will be forwarded to the University for consideration by the Board of Studies in Medical Laboratory Science, which assesses whether or not students have qualifications and training appropriate for advanced academic study. The Board must be satisfied also that:

  1. papers for which you plan to enrol represent a coherent course of study at an advanced level;
  2. the papers are relevant to Medical Laboratory Science;
  3. for Masters students your course of study will provide an appropriate basis for your proposed research topic.

An application should have reached the Medical Laboratory Science office by December 1st. 

Enrolment and Fees

Once you have been advised that the Board of Studies for Medical Laboratory Science has approved your admission you can proceed to enrol. Enrolment material will be sent to you with notification of your admission to the course. The fees payable will vary according to the nature of the paper. These, and details of the fees payable for full-time enrolment in a thesis or dissertation, will be sent to you with your enrolment pack. The fee for any paper completed at another university, to be credited toward a MLSc qualification will be set by that university.

Further Information

These are multidisciplinary programmes and those seeking admission come from widely varying backgrounds. Previous University study is not necessarily required! If you have any queries concerning your eligibility or are unsure about your proposed course it is wise to discuss these issues with the Course Director before making a formal application.
